Deep wells are installed around an excavation to lower the water level and maintain a safe and dry site. Greater drawdown and the ability to overcome the limited suction lift of vacuum well point systems can be achieved by the installation of deep well system. It provides affective dewatering for groundwater between 20 ft and 100 ft deep. Unlike the other dewatering methods whose drawdown are limited by the suction capacity of the pumps, deep well dewatering drawdown are only limited by the depth of the drilled bore. The system is best when large volumes of water must be controlled. Deep wells can also be advantageous where there is limited space to install well points close to an excavation. Installation of deep wells can be located at a greater distance while generating the required drawdown. Deep wells are also used for water extraction wells, groundwater remediation and as a point of aquifer recharge in pumping systems to limit ground settlement.
